Calgary, Alta. (February 16, 2017) – The para-alpine downhill national championships were held at Kimberley Alpine Resort (B.C.) today. The Canadian and U.S. teams joined forces to contest both the Canadian and U.S. national speed titles. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the super-G race was cancelled.

Canada came out on top with a win for Calgary’s Alana Ramsay, Sault Ste. Marie’s Mac Marcoux (guide Jack Leitch) and for Gatineau’s Alexis Guidmond. The Canadian team is coming off huge success from the 2017 Para-Alpine Skiing World Championships and continue to represent our country.

“After two really good training days, I am happy with my performance and I’m happy with the course set,” said Ramsay. “The snow was a little soft but I did my best and pushed the limit.”

It was a clean sweep for the World Cup team in the standing category with Kirk Schornstein and Braydon Luscombe joining Guimond on the podium.

I pushed out of the gate really confident today,” said Guimond. “Having had one of the best times on the track made me really happy. It was a fun day!”

Marcoux headed into the Nationals as a four-time 2017 World Champion.

“It was a good day for racing back in Canada,” said Marcoux. “We were hoping the great weather kept up like in training runs but that was not the case. Thank you to the course workers who worked hard to keep the conditions of the track in good shape!”
