Calgary, Alta. (December 20, 2016) – The next block of races series for the para-alpine team has kicked off in St. Moritz, Switzerland this week. With two giant slalom races completed, the team has picked up two more World Cup podium finishes. 

St. Moritz Giant Slalom  - Race #1 

Mac Marcoux, the 19-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, has picked up his second podium of the season with a third-place finish in the series’ first giant slalom. This comes after a gold-medal finish last weekend in giant slalom. The young speed prodigy continues to show great promise in the technical disciplines. Guided by Jack Leitch, Alberta Ski Team alumni, the pair were 1.25 seconds back from the first-place time. 

“It was a rodeo of a track here in St. Moritz,” said Marcoux. “It felt great to come out with a third-place finish and build some momentum leading into the next few days of racing.” 

On the ladies’ side, Toronto’s Erin Latimer just missed out on a podium finish with a fourth-place result.

St. Moritz Giant Slalom  - Race #2

On the second day of giant slalom para-alpine races, Latimer came back eager for a podium finish after missing out on the day before. She skied to a third-place finish, picking up her third podium of the season after capturing a career-first podium last weekend. This 20-year-old athlete is on a roll! 

“After a tough first day in St. Moritz, I was really hungry to get back on the podium today,” said Latimer. “It was a great way to finish off the giant slalom races before the break. I’m really looking forward to what the rest of the season has in store.”

It was a tough day on the men’s side with the team walking away without a podium finish. 

The team is back in action tomorrow and Thursday for back-to-back slalom races where they’ll be hungry for more top finishes.
