Calgary, Alta. (January 31, 2017) – Mac Marcoux, the 19-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, closed out the World Para-Alpine Skiing Championships capturing his fourth gold medal, and the slalom title. Marcoux (guide Jack Leitch) held onto his lead after the first run to put down the two fastest visually impaired slalom runs of the day. This is Marcoux’s fifth podium of the World Championships and fourth World Champion title in 2017.

“We are super stoked to walk away with five World Champs medals,” said Marcoux. “It’s been a long couple weeks in Tarvisio but we couldn’t be happier with the outcome! I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Jack Leitch and my head coach JS Labrie. We have an awesome team!”

The Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team closes out the World Championships with a total of 11 medals, the second-highest medal count over five days of races.

“We are extremely proud of the team’s performance,” said JS Labrie, Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team head coach. “We are impressed with how our top athletes were able to perform under pressure. The team’s performance and consistency throughout the season made us confident we had what it took to perform daily at the World Championships.”

In the women’s standing category, Calgary’s Alana Ramsay had the best Canadian finish with a fifth-place finish. Erin Latimer closed out the slalom race in eighth-place.

In the men’s standing category, Kirk Schornstein had another top ten finish with a sixth-place finish and Braydon Luscombe finished in 13th-place.
