Marielle Thompson

If you have heard of the sport of ski cross, you have heard of Marielle Thompson. She is the 2014 Olympic Champion, 2019 World Champion, 2022 Olympic Silver Medallist, and a four-time Crystal Globe winner, and since 2011, she has stood on the World Cup podium 75 times.

Of those 75 World Cup podiums, 36 have been on the top step. Nicknamed “Big Air Mar,” the 2019 World Champion began ski cross at 16, and even through injury, she has not missed a step. After previously winning the Crystal Globe in 2017, Thompson returned to her best in 2023-24 with eight podiums and six wins, with six straight podiums coming on the top step, en route to the fourth World Cup title of her career. After sustaining another serious knee injury in 2025 she worked her way back to her fourth Olympic Team and was awarded the honour of carrying the Maple Leaf as one of Canada’s Opening Ceremony Flag Bearers.

In the 2025-26 season, while returning from injury she raced to two World Cup podiums— 3rd in Veysonnaz, SUI and 3rd in Val Di Fassa, ITA and had multiple Top-10 finishes.

In the off-season, she trains at home in Whistler at the Canadian Sport Institute and can be found riding bikes in the sunshine on the trails or roads. In her spare time you can find her with her dog Pepper or playing Slo-Pitch in the summer evenings. At 34, she has a lot left in the tank and remains a medal favourite every time she enters the starting gate.
