ACA FINALIZES SKI CROSS ATHLETE SELECTIONS FOR 2019 FIS FREESTYLE WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Calgary, Alta. (March 14, 2019) –Alpine Canada has selected 10 ski cross athletes to represent Canada at the 2019 FIS Freestyle World Junior Championships in Reiteralm, Austria, on March 28.

The selections were made based on previously outlined criteria that is based primarily on FIS points earned throughout this 2018-19 season. Originally slated to take place in Rogla, Slovenia, the event was moved this week to Reiteralm due to snow conditions.

“Selection to Canada’s World Junior Championships’ team is not an easy task, which speaks to the growing depth of the sport here in Canada,” said Dave Ellis, athletic director for Canada Ski Cross. “It not only allows these up-and-coming athletes to represent their country on the world stage, but also to match themselves up against the best in the world from within their age group. We’re looking forward to some great competition in Reiteralm.”

The full list of racers who will compete for Canada includes three NextGen athletes from Canada’s national ski cross program as well as members of the Alberta Ski Cross team:

Callum McEwen (Sturgeon County, Alta./Alberta Ski Cross Team)
Carson Cook (Edmonton/Canada’s NextGen Ski Cross Team)
Gavin Rowell (Prince George, B.C./Canada’s NextGen Ski Cross Team)
Kiersten Vincett (Galahad, Alta./Alberta Ski Cross Team)
Mara Bishop (Calgary/Alberta Ski Cross Team)
Phil Tremblay (Calgary/Alberta Ski Cross Team)
Sarah Clarke (Calgary/Alberta Ski Cross Team)
Zoe Chore (Cranbrook, B.C./Canada’s NextGen Ski Cross Team)

Also selected are Canada’s NextGen Ski Cross Team athletes Reece Howden and Tiana Gairns. Howden, who competed on the World Cup circuit this season, will miss World Juniors due to school commitments, while Gairns is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Supporting Canada’s World Junior Ski Cross Team are coaches Victor Dockal (Alpine Canada) and Ben Wilkinson (Alberta Ski Cross).
