Canada Dominates Day with Three Wins and Seven Podiums

Calgary, AB. (January 8, 2025) — It was a day to remember for Canada’s para alpine team at today’s FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup races in Santa Caterina (ITA). With weather forecasted to impact tomorrow’s race, organizers determined that racing two downhills today was the best option, a decision that suited Canada’s team. Canada took three wins and every Canadian athlete competing today reached the podium.

Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON) racing in women standing, led the way winning both downhills capturing her first career World Cup win and giving her four podiums on the season.

“My first World Cup win, my first podium in downhill, and back to back wins today, is all pretty exciting,” said a smiling Gosselin. “I’m very, very pleased with my results today.”

Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB), competing in men’s sitting, extended his podium streak to seven this season with a win and a second place today.

“Three World Cup wins and seven podiums to start the season feels pretty good,” said Oatway. “Hope to keep the momentum building into World Championships in February.”

Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON), had a pair of third place finishes today in men vision impaired, giving them four podiums this season.

“Best result for Sierra and I in downhill so a great day today,” said Ericsson. “And we’re super pumped for the rest of the team all making the podium today.”

Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC), men standing, in his first race of the season after a fall in training delayed his start, raced to third in today’s second downhill.

“It feels great to be back racing and to hit the podium today,” added Guimond. “Was a treat to race my first World Cup this season and excited by the result.”
