Canada’s Cassidy Gray Open FIS Ski World Championships with Career Best

Crawford Defends World Title on Friday

Calgary, Alta. (February 6, 2025) — Canada’s team started racing today at the 2025 FIS World Ski Championships in Saalbach (AUT) with Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) leading the way with a 20th place in the women’s super-G (SG). Looking ahead to tomorrow, James Crawford (Toronto, ON) will defend his world title in the men’s SG. Checkout CBC Sports for all the details and stories from these World Championships.

It was an eventful day for Gray in her first world championships SG start, and just the sixth SG start of her World Cup career. Starting 38th, Gray was well into her run when there was a yellow flag on the course requiring her to stop. After a short snowmobile ride, and a quick helicopter ride, Gray was back at the start with little time to regroup and prepare to race again.

“I’m really proud with how I handled things today,” said a smiling Gray. “It was very different from a normal race and I’m happy with how I was able to stay focused and to deliver a strong run. I’m happy with some of my sections, but I’m a little upset with my bottom section as I know I could’ve been even faster.”

“I’ve a little fear of heights but flying in a helicopter for the first time was very cool. It was pretty exciting, and it really got the adrenaline going!”

Championship racing continues on Friday February 7th with the men’s SG, followed by with the women’s downhill (DH) on Saturday and men’s DH on Sunday. For more information on the world championships, including the full schedule, please visit the FIS website at fis-ski.com.
