Calgary, AB. (March 8, 2025) — At the FIS Ski World Cup women’s giant slalom in Are (SWE) Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON) led the Canadians on the day with a fifth-place finish for her second top five in giant slalom (GS) this season.
In the second to last of eight GS races this season, Grenier was eighth after the first run moving up three spots in the second run to capture her 12th career World Cup top five result.
“I’m extremely happy with a second top five this season,” said Grenier. “I could feel my skiing coming together in Sestriere (ITA) and finally getting to the level that I’ve been training for. Putting two good runs together today and getting a fifth-place result is awesome.”
Britt Richardson (Canmore, AB), in her 30th World Cup start, was 15th today for her fifth career top 15, while Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC), was 27th in the first run but straddled a gate for a DNF in the second run.
At the FIS Ski World Cup men’s downhill in Kvitfjell (NOR), site of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, Canada’s James Crawford (Toronto, ON) raced to eighth place for his fifth top 10 in eight downhill (DH) races this season. With today’s result, Crawford now sits in fifth place in the season standings heading into the final DH of the season in a couple of weeks.
“I felt good on my skis today and I was able to bring good commitment to my skiing”, said Crawford. “But I didn’t bring the right approach on the bottom half of the course and wasn’t pushing hard enough to get on the podium. Super happy with how I feel on the skis and am excited to send it tomorrow in the super-G.”
Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) was 28th today for his best DH result this season, while Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC), in his 50th World Cup DH start, finished 34th. Raphael Lessard (Bromont, QC) in just his season World Cup start was 49th.
