Calgary, AB. (Mar 21,2024) — Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON) raced to second place in today’s giant slalom at the FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Sella Nevea (ITA). Competing in the men visually impaired category the pair finished second in both the first and second runs to capture their fifth podium in this their first season on the World Cup circuit.
Today was the second of three giant slaloms this week, to go along with a slalom and a super-G scheduled at these World Cup Finals to wrap up the season.
“Feels great to be back on the podium after a long stretch of canceled races,” said Ericsson. “The conditions were really tough out there today but we stuck to our plan and executed it well.”
“For the upcoming races we hope to fight for that top step and close the gap on the leader,” added Smith.
Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON), in her first World Cup races since the 2022 Beijing Paralympics, finished fifth for the second time this week in the women’s standing, while Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB) placed sixth in men sitting. Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC) did not finish his first run in men standing.
