Calgary, Alta. (January 15, 2017) – The Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team raced a super combined in Innerkrems (AUT) today, finishing off the speed series with two World Cup podium finishes. Alana Ramsay, 22-years-old, skied to a first-place finish with teammate Erin Latimer joining her on the podium in third-place. 

“I’m happy with my performance this week,” said Ramsay. “With the snow the past few days it was easy to charge from start to finish. I’m looking forward to the next set of races and World Championships still to come!"

Ramsay’s first-place finish is the third podium for the Calgary native in this speed series, including one in downhill and one in super-G. 

“I’m really happy with how I was able to execute my super-G run today,” said Latimer. “I went into the slalom run in third place but it was a very close run so I knew it would be tight. Happy to be back on the podium!”

Today’s super combined race saw the athletes racing two runs, the first a super-G, followed by a slalom run, favouring the athletes who have both strong technical and speed abilities. 

Mac Marcoux, who has demonstrated his strengths in speed disciplines, finished the super-G portion of the race in first-place but failed to put together a clean slalom run, resulting in a DNF result. 

Kurt Oatway from Calgary finished in seventh-place overall in today’s super combined race. It was a tough day for Canadians in the standing category with both Braydon Luscombe and Alexis Guimond finishing with DNF results. 

Kirk Schornstein, the 23-year-old from Spruce Grove, Alta., had the best Canadian men’s result of the day in the standing category with an eighth-place finish. 

The team now heads to Kranjska Gora (SLO) for two slalom races and one giant slalom race next week.
