Guimond, Jepsen and Ericsson, With Guide Smith, All Podium At Para Alpine Finals
Calgary, AB. (March 21, 2025) — On the second day of racing at the FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Veysonnaz (SUI), Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC) delivered a third-place finish in giant slalom (GS) for the second day in a row. Also standing on the podium today, racing in men vision impaired, were Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON), who took third, and in women’s standing, Mollie Jepsen (West Vancouver, BC) took third as well.
Racing in men standing, Guimond delivered two solid runs to give him an almost three second lead ahead of fourth place. This is Guimond’s fifth podium in six World Cup races this season.
”Feels good to be back on the podium again,” said Guimond. “The skiing is there and great to have consistency. It truly builds confidence. Definitely felt like today was a possible victory, but mistakes happen and looking forward to chase the top of the podium tomorrow.”
Ericsson and Smith produced two nearly identical runs to finish just .02 of a second from second place. This is the pairs seventh World Cup podium this season.
“Coming off yesterday’s crash, it feels great to be back on the podium today,” said Smith. “Today’s result will give us a boost of confidence and help us go into tomorrow charging.”
“Definitely looking forward to another race tomorrow,” added Ericsson. “Missing second place by so little is tough but just goes to show that we need to be on our A game for tomorrow.”
In just her second race back after injuries that started at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, Jepsen was originally listed as finishing fourth but post-race was moved up to third.
“The last three years, two of which being out with my knee and my elbow, have been super challenging so I am trying to be kind to myself, dust off the cobwebs, and gain confidence with every start,” said Jepsen. “I’ve been trying hard not to focus on results, but on my skiing and my tactical approach. Today was a huge accomplishment and shows me I’ve been taking the right steps to get back to the top of the podium! Stoked to continue to build on today’s momentum!”
Other Canadians in action today were, in women’s standing, Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON) in eight, Florence Carrier in 11th and Tess Beasant, 12th after the first run, didn’t start her second run. In women sitting, Katie Combaluzier (Toronto, ON), was sixth while Andrea Nelson didn’t finish her first run.
And in men’s sitting, Brian Rowland (Merrickville, ON) was 18th, while Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB), seventh in the first run, and Samuel Peters, 24th in the first run, didn’t finish their second runs.
