Howden Wins in Kopaonik

Calgary, AB. (February 28, 2026)—With the Canadian ski team competing across Europe today, Reece Howden (Chilliwack, BC) was the story of the day dominating racing at the FIS Ski Cross World Cup race in Kopaonik (SRB). Howden won each heat today and led the finals from start to finish for his fifth win of the season and the 23rd of his career.

Dedicating today’s win to teammate Kevin Drury who was injured in yesterday’s race, Howden extended his lead atop the season standings as he looks to repeat as the Crystal Globe winner.

“Today wasn’t about me, I was racing today for Kevin (Drury),” said Howden. “I feel so honoured to have been a teammate of Kevin’s. He’s been a role model for me on and off the snow. When we’re singing Oh Canada on the podium in a few minutes, we’ll be signing it for Kevin Drury.”

Jared Schmidt (Ottawa, ON) won today’s small final to place fifth, while Kris Mahler (Canmore, AB) was 20th, Kaleb Barnum (Fernie, BC) 22nd and Gavin Rowell (Prince George, BC) 23rd.

Hannah Schmidt (Ottawa, ON), like brother Jared, won today’s small final to take fifth in the women’s race, while Marielle Thompson (Whistler, BC) was 14th.
