Calgary, Alta. (October 21, 2022) — Alpine Canada officially announced today the 50-athlete roster for the 2022-23 Canadian Ski Team that will represent Canada on the FIS World Cup circuit in Alpine, Ski Cross and Para-Alpine.
“This team is a talented and committed group of world class skiers and leaders in life” said Therese Brisson, President and CEO of Alpine Canada. “As we begin the next quadrennial, the goal is for continuous improvement building to peak performance for our team at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Our coaches and staff are excited to work with this team and we are confident that this group will make Canadians proud on and off the slopes.”
The 2022-23 team has a strong veteran presence, including four athletes (Marie-Michèle Gagnon (15yr), Brady Leman (14yr), Marielle Thompson (12yr) and Erik Read (11yr)) with more than 10 years’ experience on the national team. The team also has four athletes (Kiara ‘Kiki’ Alexander, Sarah Bennett, Simon Fournier and Katie Combaluzier) newly named to the team this season.

The ski racing season starts this weekend with the FIS World Cup opener in Soelden, Austria that will see a women’s and men’s giant slalom on Oct. 22 and 23, respectively. Among the Canadians competing this weekend is Val Grenier looking to build on her 7th place finish at last season’s opener in Soelden. This weekend’s races and future races this season can be seen on CBC, CBCSports.ca and on the CBC app GEM. CBC’s broadcast schedule is available here.
The Ski Cross World Cup season begins in France in December and the Para Alpine season also starts in December with racing in Switzerland. To see the full FIS World Cup schedule please click here.
Canada is hosting two FIS World Cup events this season:
- Lake Louise, AB, Nov 25-27 Men’s Speed Events and Dec 2-4 Women’s Speed Events
- Craigleith Ski Club, ON, Mar 17-18 Ski Cross
And looking ahead to the 23-24 season, Alpine Canada recently announced plans for a FIS World Cup event for Women’s Technical events at Mont Tremblant beginning next season, Dec 2-3 2023.
