Calgary, AB. (February 22, 2025) — In front of a large, flag waving Swiss crowd at today’s FIS Ski World Cup men’s downhill in Crans Montana (SUI), James Crawford (Toronto, ON) placed sixth for his fourth top 10 finish this season in the downhill (DH).

Coming off his first career World Cup win last month in Kitzbühel, today’s result, in the first men’s DH race in Crans Montana in over 25 years, moves Crawford into the top five in the season DH standings after six of nine races.

“Today’s result is a little bittersweet,” said Crawford. “I thought I skied well enough to be closer to the top guys, but it was a super solid day and I’m quite happy with the skiing today. I’m feeling confident heading into the end of the season and looking to bring the same approach in tomorrow’s super-G and go as fast as I can.”

Other Canadian men in action were Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) placing 40th, while Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) missed a gate for a DNF.

At the FIS Ski World Cup women’s giant slalom in Sestriere (ITA), Britt Richardson (Canmore, AB), was sitting in third place after the first run but slid out and missed a gate on her second run for a DNF. Similarly, Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON) was eighth after the first run but had a fall in the second run before skiing to the bottom for a DNF. Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) was 34th in the first run, while Justine Lamontagne (St-Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) was 49th, both missed qualifying for the second run.
