Erin Mielzynski posts 12th-place finish in parallel slalom under the lights

Stockholm, SWE (Feb. 19, 2019) – Canada’s Laurence St-Germain (St-Ferréole-les-Neiges, Que./Mont Ste-Anne Ski Club) raced to a sixth-place finish in her second-ever City Event – a parallel slalom under the lights that features the excitement of head-to-head racing.

St-Germain was previously 13th in the New Year’s Day City Event in Oslo, Norway.

“I am super happy with my result. It was the first time I was able to (move) past the first round,” said St-Germain, who defeated Katharina Liensberger of Austria two runs to none in the eights before being edged by hundredths of a second against crowd-favourite Frida Hansdotter of Sweden in the quarter-final. The two won one run each, but Hansdotter posted a slight time advantage, which is used as the tie-breaker. “There are so many people here. The crowd is crazy, and it was for sure pretty hard going against Frida because the crowd was cheering (loudly) for her, but I’m happy with my race and hopefully next time I move even further.”

Teammate Erin Mielzynski (Collingwood, Ont./Georgian Peaks Ski Club) was up against Austria’s Katharina Truppe in the eights. Mielzynski posted a DNF in the first run of that heat, and was 0.19 seconds behind Truppe in the second run, ending her day in 12th overall.

Only the top-seeded racers, as determined by the overall and slalom World Cup standings, are invited to participate in the City Event.
