Oatway Races to Second Place in Para Alpine Season Opening Super-G
Calgary, AB. (Dec 11, 2024) — The para-alpine season opened today with a super-G at the FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup in Steinach am Brenner (AUT). Canada’s Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB), competing in men sitting, took second place, just .08 of a second from the win. This is the first of 10 stops this season on the para alpine World Cup circuit.
“Today felt pretty good and overall I’m happy with the result,” said Oatway. “I felt good coming in to today after racing on the course yesterday in the FIS para race. The course set was a little longer than yesterday, starting higher up, but it was similar, and it flowed well. There was one turn that I could’ve cleaned-up and that might have made the difference between first and second.”
Other Canadians in action in this opening race were Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON) who finished fourth in men visually impaired, and with a pair of sixth place finishes were Katie Combaluzier (Toronto, ON) in women sitting, and Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON) in women standing.
