Calgary, AB. (Jan 30, 2024) — Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB) raced to second in the downhill at today’s FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup stop in Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA). This is Oatway’s third podium this season in the men sitting category and his best result in the downhill this season.
“It wasn’t perfect today, but second place feels pretty good, “said Oatway. “Struggled a little in training yesterday, fell twice and missed a couple of gates, but the important thing was that I learned the course and adjusted. Made a mistake today, had a hip slide but popped up and managed to keep the momentum. The track is amazing with us following the able-bodied women’s downhill here on the weekend and there’s good energy around the team heading into the rest of the week and into 2026.”
Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON), finished fourth today in the men visually impaired race making it five top four finishes in their five World Cup races together. Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC) did not finish his run in the men’s standing category.
At the FIS Ski World Cup women’s giant slalom (GS) at Kronplatz (ITA), Britt Richardson (Canmore, AB) was the top Canadian finishing 18th for her fifth top 25 in GS this season. Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) was 37th in her first run and didn’t advance to the second run. Sarah Bennett (Stoneham, QC) did not finish her run and Arianne Forget (Belle Neige, QC), in her World Cup debut, was a DSQ.
