Calgary, Alta. (January 20, 2017) – The para-alpine team wraps up their final series before heading into the World Championships next week. Today is the final day of tech races in Kranjska Gora SLO). The team finished on a high note with two more World Cup podium finishes, both from Calgary’s Alana Ramsay in back-to-back slalom races.
Ramsay walks away with first and second-place finishes heading to into the biggest event of the year. In yesterday’s race Ramsay put together the two fastest times of the day to win the race. Today she put together another solid performance, finishing in second-place.
“I am happy with my performance today!” said Ramsay. “It was tough snow but I had two really good course sets. I pushed right to the finish and feel happy with how I skied.”
Kirk Schornstein, the 23-year-old from Spruce Grove, Alta., also put together two great runs in slalom, achieving season-best performances. He finished in sixth-place in the first slalom and went on to better his result in the second slalom with a fifth-place finish. In today’s race, Schornstein was just over a second out from the podium, closing the gap on the field’s top racers.
“What a day!” said Schornstein. “It feels great to be right in the pack fighting for the podium in a close race. I’m very happy with my performance. I pushed my limits to a new level and had some new feelings while doing it. I can see the podium and I know I can get on it.”
The team now travels to Tarvisio (ITA) for the World Championships, which will include five days of racing.
