Are, SWE (Feb. 10, 2019) – Competing in her first FIS Alpine World Championships, Canadian Roni Remme (Collingwood, Ont./Alpine Ski Club) is determined to make sure she’s not only giving it her best shot, but that she’s learning from every run.

In two races, the 22-year-old has been top-Canadian – posting a fifth-place finish in the combined on Friday, and a 28th-place finish in Sunday’s downhill.

“For me, (every run) is just an important learning experience; every ride, I just want to soak up everything I can,” said Remme following the downhill, which was raced on a shortened course due to wind. “I definitely felt like I executed better today than I have in the last couple of days. It was a little difficult with the lighting that we got, but I think we’re getting there. It’s taking steps, making progress.”

Fellow Canadian Marie-Michèle Gagnon (Lac-Etchemin, Que./Mont Orignal), 29, finished 32nd, .10 out of the top-30. Gagnon, who was out last season due to a knee injury sustained in training for the 2017-18 season-opening downhill, is competing in her sixth World Championships. She was 21st in the super-G and 14th in the combined last week.

A tightly grouped top-five was separated by less than six-hundredths of a second, and included the newly crowned ladies’ downhill world champion, Ilka Stuhec of Slovenia, silver-medallist Corinne Suter of Switzerland, and American legend Lindsey Vonn, who retires from the sport having captured bronze in her last race.
