Calgary, AB. (Nov 16, 2024) — Laurence St-Germain (St. Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) placed 10th in the opening slalom race of the women's FIS Ski World Cup season today in Levi (FIN). This is St-Germain’s 75th World Cup start, her 17th top 10 finish, and her 5th top 10 in Levi.
Racing 170 kilometers above the Arctic Circle in Levi, St-Germain finished the first run in 27th place and then delivered the third fastest second run to move up into 10th place. St-Germain returns to racing this season after dealing with an ankle injury last season that limited her appearances and took much of the summer to heal.
“Really happy with my second run today,” said St-Germain. “I was a little stiff in the first run so really wanted to ski instinctively and free in the second run. The second run wasn’t perfect, but I was really going for it and that’s how you have to race here in Levi.”
“I felt like myself racing today, and it’s been a while since I could say that because of my ankle. We had good training leading into Levi that helped with my confidence, especially in the second run today, and it was great to race feeling healthy.”
Also securing World Cup points today was Amelia Smart (Invermere, BC) who finished 23rd after moving up five spots in her second run. Smart now has four top 30 finishes in Levi.
Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, ON), looking to build on back-to-back sixth place finishes in Levi last season, was a promising 12th after today’s first run, but didn’t finish her second run.
And in her fifth World Cup start, coming after a two-year gap due to injury, Kiki Alexander (Cochrane, AB) was back in the starting gate today but didn’t finish her first run.
“It has been a long journey to get back on the circuit and it felt so awesome to be back in the start gate,” said Alexander. “Today was so much fun and I’m really happy that I went out there and could give it my all. I couldn’t be more stoked to be back racing with this amazing Canadian team.”
