Calgary, AB (January 16, 2020) – The Canadian Alpine Ski Team is heading into the meat of the ski season and with that comes an iconic race for the men’s ski team. They have arrived in Wengen, Switzerland in preparation for one of the oldest, longest and fastest races on the World Cup schedule.
The men’s team will kick off the festivities on January 17 with the alpine combined followed by the downhill on Saturday. Thomsen will be joined by Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC), Jack Crawford (Toronto, ON), Cam Alexander (North Vancouver, BC), Sam Mulligan (Vancouver, BC) and Jeff Read (Canmore, AB).
On Sunday the slalom will take over. Erik Read (Canmore, AB), who is coming off an 11th place finish in Adelboden, Switzerland, looks to best his 23rd place finish on the course in 2016. Along with Read will be Trevor Philp (Calgary, AB) and Simon Fournier (Montreal, QC).
The women, who have had a busy week in Flachau, AUT will be in Sestriere, ITA for the giant slalom and parallel giant slalom beginning on January 18 and finishing up the next day. Laurence St-Germain (St. Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) and Erin Mielzynski (Collingwood, ON) look to improve on their 10th and 15th place finishes in Flachau. They will be joined by Marie-Michèle Gagnon (Lac-Etchemin, QC) and Candace Crawford (Toronto, ON).
The teams look to keep up the momentum they’ve built in the first couple races of 2020 and carry it into the next few weeks of iconic races in Kitzbuehel and Bankso.
