THOMPSON LANDS CAREER BEST RESULT IN BORMIO

Calgary, Alta. (December 29, 2017) – 23-year-old Broderick Thompson (Whistler, B.C.) captured his first top-ten World Cup finish in the Bormio, ITA alpine combined, finishing in eighth-place. An alpine combined race is made up of one downhill run, followed by a slalom run, uniting both speed and technical abilities.

Thompson put down a solid downhill run, sitting in 24th before heading into the slalom. A great slalom run moved him up 16 spots to finish in the day just +1.22 off the first-place time. Thompson has already had huge success this season capturing two top-30 results in downhill, hitting the qualification criteria guidelines to head to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

“I skied with confidence in both runs and made some good turns,” said Thompson. “It ended up being pretty good!”

Thompson was the lone Canadian to race the Bormio, ITA alpine combined, which ran under sunny skies and crisp conditions. Broderick has three previous top-30 alpine combined finishes to his name with today’s eighth-place making it a personal-best.

France’s Alexis Pinturault was today’s winner. Italy’s Peter Fill finished in second-place and Norway’s Kjetil Jansrud finished in third-place.

The men’s speed team is back in action January 12th in Wengen, SUI.

The women raced a giant slalom in Lienz, AUT but were unable to qualify for a second run. They’ll have another shot at points next weekend in Kranjska Gora, SLO.
