Calgary, Alta. (February 11, 2017) – The Canada Ski Cross Team raced in Idre Fjäll (SWE) today on a technically challenging course that got the best of most of the team. The course included a few large sweeping turns with multiple rollers, and massive features that led to lots of airtime. The drag strip at the end of the course allowed for exciting passing into the finish. Heats were tight all day long and unfortunately Canada was edged out early in most of them.
Whistler’s Marielle Thompson had the best Canadian finish today with a fifth-place result, still holding her spot as the overall ladies’ ski cross leader. After an early knock-out in the semi-finals, she found redemption for the day easily winning the small final.
The team’s highlight today was a personal-best finish for Next Gen athlete, 20-year-old India Sherret, who finished in 13th-place.
For the rest of the team, costly mistakes in their heats cost them podium results.
The team will be looking for redemption tomorrow as they take on the same track.
