Calgary, AB. (January 24, 2025) — Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) led the way with a fifth place finish as Canada had five men in the points at today’s FIS Ski World Cup super-G (SG) in Kitzbühel (AUT). James Crawford (Toronto, ON) was eighth today giving Canada two men in the top 10 in the Kitzbühel SG for the first time since 2008 when current men’s team head coach Johnny Kucera was fifth and Robbie Dixon was sixth.
With today’s result in the first race of the 85th Hahnenkamm Races, in the fifth of eight super-G races this season, Alexander moves into seventh in the season standings with Crawford sitting in 10th.
“The last time I raced the super-G here was in 2020 and I made it about seven gates, so making it all the way down and having a top five feels great,” said a smiling Alexander. “We’ve got a really strong group and everyone is skiing well. Having five guys in the top 30 shows what our group can do.”
“I’m on a good trend heading into World Championships,” said Crawford. “I’ve had a lot of good skiing and just haven’t quite made it all the way to the finish the way I want. I’m happy with another top 10 and looking forward to tomorrow’s downhill.”
Riley Seger (North Vancouver, BC) in his first World Cup race in Kitzbühel, started 37th and raced to a 15th place finish for his third career top 15.
“My first time racing in Kitz and the nerves were a little high,” said a grinning Seger. “The only two guys I watched were Cam and Jeff and they skied really well so that helped calm things. Today felt really good, I knew I had to go out and push and it felt great to cross the finish line.”
Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB), in his 90th World Cup start, was 23rd today and rounding out the Canadians in the points was Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) in 27th. Kyle Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) missed a gate and skied down for a DNF
