Cameron Alexander Fifth in Wengen Downhill

Cameron Alexander Fifth in Wengen Downhill

Calgary, AB. (January 18, 2025) — Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) made it back-to-back top 10’s at today’s FIS Ski World Cup men’s downhill in Wengen (SUI). Following yesterday’s eighth place in the super-G, Alexander improved to fifth today. James Crawford (Toronto, ON), fourth yesterday raced to ninth today.

In this fourth of nine downhills this season, reaching speeds of 150km/hr on the fabled Lauberhorn track, at 4.4km the longest race on the calendar, Alexander delivered his fifth top 10 of the season, and his third top 10 in downhill.

“It feels really good to put one down at one of the classics,” said Alexander. “It’s funny, I scored my first World Cup points ever here in Wengen five years ago and that was the best I’d ever done here in the downhill. I’ve skied fast here in the past but there was always a little mistake or something so today’s fifth feels great.”

Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) picked-up World Cup points today in 27th place and Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) finished 41st.

Two Canadian women raced today at the FIS Ski World Cup women’s downhill, the third of eight downhills this season, in Cortina D’Ampezzo (ITA), the site of the alpine events for the 2026 Cortina-Milano Olympic Winter Games. Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON), at the location where she’s had two top-5s including a third place in the downhill last season, finished 21st today, just behind Lindsay Vonn (USA) who continues her comeback to World Cup racing at 40 years old.

Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC), in her first career World Cup downhill start, finished 46th today.
