Heading into the last weekend of World Cup racing before the World Cup finals, the Canadian Ski Teams are in the start gates all across Europe from Sweden to Russia and down to Slovenia.
The women’s tech team will kick out of the start gate in Åre, SWE in the last slalom races before the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide. After the races were canceled here last season due to COVID-19 Erin Mielzynski, who finished 5thon this course in 2012 and 10thin 2018 is ready to lead the close-knit group of Canadian women down the Scandinavian course. Erin will be joined by Laurence St-Germain, who is ranked 7thin the world in slalom right now, Ali Nullmeyer, and Roni Remme. The action begins on Friday with the first of two slaloms.
Down in Kranjska Gora, SLO the men’s tech team is ready to finish on top with a giant slalom on Saturday and a slalom on Sunday. Trevor Philp finished 8thon this giant slalom course in 2019 and he looks to get back to the top-10 to close out the season. Trevor will be joined by Erik Read who has finished 19th and 16th here in 2019 and 2018.
Way over in Russia, the Canadian Ski Cross Team is looking to repeat as Nations Cup winners with a strong weekend. Marielle Thompson, who finished 1st on this course in 2017, looks to lead the team to the top of the podium once again. Reece Howden, who has already secured the ski cross Crystal Globe, wants to get back to the top of the podium, while Jared Schmidt, coming off his first career World Cup podium wants to stay on top. The team, which has been hit hard by injuries this season, aims to finish strong and send as many athletes as possible to the World Cup Finals in Veysonnaz, SUI. Marielle, Reece, and Jared will be joined by team veteran Chris Del Bosco, Courtney Hoffos, Hannah Schmidt, Kris Mahler, Tiana Gairns, and Zoe Chore.
The Canadian Ski Teams are at the end of the World Cup season, with one weekend left to qualify for the World Cup Finals skiers are eager and prepared to finish strong.
