Canada’s Britt Richardson 10th in World Championships Giant Slalom

Calgary, Alta. (February 13, 2025) — Reigning Junior World Champion Britt Richardson (Canmore, AB) raced to 10thplace in today’s women’s giant slalom (GS) at the 2025 FIS World Ski Championships in Saalbach (AUT). Today’s result is a World Championships GS career best for Richardson, improving on a 21st place at the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel-Méribel where Richardson picked up a bronze medal in the team parallel.

Sitting in 18th place after the first run, Richardson delivered a flying second run that landed her in the leader’s chair for a handful of racers. It turned out to be the fourth fastest second run and moved her up eight spots for a top 10 finish.

“I’m really proud with my mind set in the second run. I’ve struggled with some back pain that has kept me off snow for the last couple of weeks and I only got in three days of training for this race,” said Richardson. “I was physically and mentally at a low point coming into this race so to know that I can still perform at a high level feels good. It took a mental shift to be confident and to really go for it in the second run, and it felt good to leave nothing behind and to take all the risks that I did and to have it pay off with a top 10.”

Other Canadian women in action today were Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON) who produced the seventh fastest second run to finish 14th, while Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) had a fall in her first run and skied down for a DNF.

Championship racing continues on Friday February 14th with the men’s GS and wraps up with the men’s slalom on Sunday February 16th.  For more information on the world championships, including the full schedule, please visit the FIS website at fis-ski.com.
