Calgary, AB (November 19, 2020) - After a break in the World Cup schedule, the women of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team are back at it from Levi, FIN this weekend with two days of slalom action. Unlike past years, this year only the women will hold it down in front of the Finnish fans at the race with the cutest prize on the circuit.
This week, a strong contingent of Canadian tech queens entered the World Cup bubble in preparation for the race in one of the northernmost stops on the tour. Team veteran Erin Mielzynski (Collingwood, ON), who finished 25th in last year's race, will lead the team, who have been recently training in Italy.
“I am so excited to race and have found so much joy in my skiing this year. I hope I can show that joy on the race days. We are incredibly lucky to be up here and doing what we love,” Erin said upon arrival in Levi. “Finland has taken a lot of precautions and worked hard to make this race happen. We have had two COVID-19 tests within the last 48 hours. We are trying to do our part to keep everyone safe and healthy while adding a bit of enjoyment to people’s lives.”
Erin will be joined by Laurence St-Germain (St. Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) who is currently ranked 18th in the world in slalom, recent University of Utah graduate Roni Remme (Collingwood, ON), Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, ON), and Amelia Smart (Invermere, BC) who are both able to commit more time to the World Cup this season while studying remotely at Middlebury College and the University of Denver respectively.
