ELEVEN ATHLETES SELECTED TO REPRESENT CANADA AT WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Alpine Canada names five women, six men to team racing in Val di Fassa, ITA, Feb. 18-27

Calgary, Alta. (Feb. 8, 2019) – Alpine Canada has selected 11 athletes – five women, six men – to represent Canada at the 2019 FIS Alpine World Junior Championships in Val di Fassa, Italy, Feb. 18-27.

The selections were made based on outlined criteria which include their World Junior Rankings and performance in NorAm Cup racing.

“The World Junior Championships provide an excellent opportunity for these up-and-coming athletes to gain valuable international racing experience, as well as see how they match up against their peers from the other top ski racing nations around the world,” said Brien Perry, Director of Domestic Sport for Alpine Canada.

The full list of racers who will compete for Canada is:

  • Ali Nullmeyer (Georgian Peaks Ski Club)
  • Amelia Smart (Panorama Ski Club)
  • Asher Jordan (Whistler Mountain Ski Club)
  • Beatrix Lever (Club de courses Mont Cascades)
  • Declan McCormack (Osler Bluff Ski Club)
  • Jamie Casselman (Team Panorama – Kimberley Alpine Team)
  • Justine Clement (Club de ski Stoneham)
  • Kyle Alexander (Vancouver/Whistler Mountain Ski Club)
  • Marina Vilanova (Montreal/Club de ski Mont-Tremblant)
  • Raphael Lessard (Club de ski de Bromont)

Selected but unable to attend:

  • Liam Wallace (Sunshine Alpine Racers)

Supporting Canada’s World Junior Alpine Ski Team in Italy are ladies’ head coach and project lead, Jennifer Stielow (Alpine Canada); ladies’ team technician Boyd Callaway (Sporting Life); men’s team head coach Peter Rybarik (Alpine Canada); men’s team assistant coach and technician Gavin McNutt (Alpine Canada); and men’s team assistant coach Nick Cooper (B.C. Alpine).

Sporting Life is helping Canada’s racers compete at their best by providing the technical assistance of Callaway at World Juniors.

In coordination with the event’s rightsholders, Alpine Canada will provide a live stream of the men’s downhill on Feb. 20, men’s giant slalom on Feb. 25, and the men’s slalom on Feb. 26 for Canadian viewers through the organization’s Facebook page. In addition, daily highlights of the Canadians’ runs are slated to be available on race days.
