Calgary, AB. (January 12, 2025) — Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON), topped the podium for the first time this season at today’s FIS Para Alpine World Cup giant slalom in St. Moritz (SUI).  Competing in men vision impaired, the duo had the fastest first and second runs making for a convincing victory. They have now stood on the podium in their last six races this World Cup season.                

“It was an awesome experience to win both runs today, especially after a couple of mistakes in yesterday’s second run cost us,” said Ericsson. “I was hungry to come back today and to deliver two strong runs and we did that.” 

“Really exciting to have six podiums in our last six races,” added Smith. “We are continuing to build momentum for World Championships in a few weeks.” 

Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC), continued his return to form in men’s standing with a second place finish today for his third podium in four races this season.

Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON) raced to third place finish today in women’s standing and has now podiumed in her last six World Cup races, including back to back wins earlier this week in Santa Caterina.

Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB), competing in men’s sitting, delivered the second fastest second run but missed the podium finishing in fourth place.

At today’s FIS Ski World Cup women’s super-G in St. Anton (AUT), Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON), in just her second super-G of the season, missed a gate and skied to the bottom for a DNF. 

And at the FIS Ski World Cup men’s giant slalom in Adelboden (SUI), Asher Jordan (North Vancouver, BC), in his first World Cup race in almost a year, and Liam Wallace (Banff, AB), in his first World Cup giant slalom this season, both missed a gate and skied down for DNFs. The other Canadian man racing today was Erik Read in 36th.
