Calgary, Alta. (March 19, 2023) – Valérie Grenier (St-Isidore, ON) wrapped-up her most successful World Cup season today with a third-place finish in giant slalom (GS) at the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Soldeau, Andorra. This is Grenier’s third podium of the season including GS a win in Kranjska Gora (SLO), and a bronze in the team parallel at the World Championships. Today’s result moves Grenier into seventh place in the season GS standings, and into 25th in the women’s overall alpine World Cup standings.

Sitting second after the first run, behind eventual winner Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), Grenier was in a group of five racers all within .2 of a second of each other. Grenier delivered a solid second run to take third place, extending her streak to seven consecutive top 15’s in World Cup GS dating back to December.

“I’m so happy to finish on the podium,” said Grenier. “Today was the last opportunity this season and after winning earlier in the year, I really wanted to prove that I could do it again. I knew how close we all were heading into the second run, so I had to ski fast and not make too many mistakes to keep my position. I wanted the win, but I was really happy when I crossed the finish line in second and I knew that I was going to be on the podium.”

“Finishing seventh in the standings was something that I had in my head as a target ,’ added Grenier. “It shows that I’ve been consistent and that was my main goal this season.”

Today’s race marks the conclusion of the 22-23 World Cup season for Canada’s ski team. Please follow Alpine Canada on social media or visit alpinecanada.org to keep up with the latest news and information on Canadian World Cup ski racing.
