(December 11, 2025) — It was an epic day on the slopes for Canadian skiers to kick off the 2025-26 FIS Para Alpine World Cup circuit, as Alexis Guimond picked up a win in the men’s standing super-G in Steinach am Bremmer, AUT, with Mollie Jepsen finishing in second in the women’s standing category.
After looking comfortable in the super-G portion of the alpine combined in the first race of the season on Wednesday, Guimond cruised into Thursday’s race with confidence, skiing to his first World Cup victory since Dec. 20, 2023, which came on the same slope.
The 26-year-old posted a time of 1:09.21 to win the men’s standing race, with the fastest times through the first two sectors, only slightly trailing off with the second fastest time in the final section. France’s Jules Segers finished second in 1:11.55, with Switzerland’s Robin Cuche rounding out the podium in third with a time of 1:12.36.
For the native of Gatineau, Québec, the win brings him to seven victories in his career and up to 38 podiums. It is also the second hill he has won on twice, joining two giant slalom races in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2023.
“Today was great skiing. I woke up this morning with the conviction that I could do this today and show up with good intentions. I really put my maximum effort there and pushed the pace, and that’s exactly what I did and what I envisioned today,” Guimond said after the race.
“I’m really excited about the results and really looking forward to what's to come and the rest of the season, but it’s a good start.”
Last season, he finished with six podiums, including five in giant slalom and one in downhill.
Jepsen, meanwhile, won’t soon forget Thursday. Finishing second in the women’s standing category, the 26-year-old posted her best result since a giant slalom win in Salastrains, SUI, in December 2021, after returning to World Cup racing with two events in 2024-25 in Veysonnaz, SUI, including a third place in the giant slalom.
"I'm happy with the skiing and my approach today!" said Jepsen. "Really focused on building back up to 100% in the race environment and today was a big step in the right direction. Looking forward to tomorrow and continuing to build on my speed skis into next week."
The six-time Paralympic medalist had dealt with injury and illness since 2021 and had not raced a top-tier event since the Beijing 2022 Paralympics before returning to World Cup racing in March. Thursday’s super-G marked her first since those Paralympic Games.
Following the 2022 Paralympics, knee surgeries kept her out of the following three seasons. She was scheduled to return earlier in 2024-25, but she broke her elbow and wrist, her first fracture injuries, in October and could not return until the final races.
