Howden Tops Ski Cross Podium Hoffos Takes Second

Calgary, AB. (March 29, 2025) — In the penultimate race of the 2024_25 season at the FIS Ski Cross World Cup in Idre Fjall (SWE), Canada’s Reece Howden (Chilliwack, BC) raced to the win on the men’s side, while Courtney Hoffos (Windermere, BC) took second in the women’s race. This is Howden’s sixth World Cup win this season and the 17th of his career. For Hoffos, this is her fourth podium this season to go along with a silver medal at last week’s World Championships.

On the 10-year anniversary of ski cross racing at Idre Fjall, in the 16th of 17 races this season, Howden added to his impressive results in Idre Fjall with this fourth win in eight races here. Howden comes out of this race in first place in the season standings with a 33-point lead heading into the tomorrow’s final race of the season.

After missing the first two races of the season as she returned from injury, Hoffos has seen her results improve as the season progressed with her four podiums this season all coming in the last two months.

“It was super tight racing today, especially in the big final,” said a smiling Hoffos. “There was a lot of overtaking, and everyone was racing in a tight group. I had a moment where I saw no one in front of me and I thought that there might be a win but had to settle for second. Fired-up for second place and excited to go again tomorrow.”

Abby McEwen (Edmonton, AB), the only other Canadian women racing today was 13th today, while on the men’s side Nicholas Katrusiak (Whistler, BC) was 16th, Kevin Drury (Toronto, ON) 18th and Kaleb Barnum (Fernie, BC), in his first World Cup start, finished 30th.
