Jeff Thompson joins Alpine Canada as Vice-President, Domestic Sport Programs & Events
Calgary, AB (May 3, 2021) – Alpine Canada is pleased to welcome Jeff Thompson to the organization as Vice-President of Domestic Sport Programs and Events. Jeff’s experience within Canadian sport makes him an incredible asset to the future of Canadian ski racing.
“Jeff brings with him a lifetime of experience and accomplishment in sport and a deep history with Canadian ski racing,” said Alpine Canada’s President & CEO Therese Brisson. “I am thrilled that he will be bringing this experience to Alpine Canada to help build a better future for ski racing in Canada.”
Jeff has spent his career in senior leadership positions within Canadian sport. Most recently he spent 18 years with Golf Canada serving as the Chief Sport Officer (2005 – 2020) and as the Interim CEO (Jan. – July 2017). He played an instrumental role in setting the strategic direction for the organization and was responsible for leading the creation of the sports long-term player development framework as well as grassroots and high-performance programming. He had direct oversight of Golf Canada’s amateur championships and the growth of its membership programs and was deeply involved with sports safe sport initiatives.
Jeff is well known to many in the Canadian ski community having served as Head Coach and Director of Athletics with the National Ski Academy in Collingwood, ON, and serving as Executive Director of Alpine Ontario Alpin.
"It is an exciting time for the organization, new leadership, renewed energy and vision for the future,” Jeff said. “I am looking forward to taking on this new role, returning to a sport I have great passion for and the opportunity to significantly contribute to ACA’s success moving forward.”
Jeff will have a broad scope of responsibilities including Provincial and Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO) relations, athlete and coach development pathways (LTAD), Coach and Official Education and Certification, participant registration and data management, insurance program, and Safe Sport framework. He will also lead Alpine Canada’s domestic and international event hosting strategy across disciplines.
