Calgary, Alta. (September 19, 2016) – Alpine Canada is pleased to announce PCL Construction (PCL), has joined as an official partner in support of the Canadian Alpine Development Ski Team through the 2018-19 season. Supporting the next generation of alpine superstars is a critical building block to the long-term sustainable funding required to compete and win on the international stage.
“PCL is Canada’s top contractor who believes in the power of sport to elevate all Canadians. PCL's new multi-year partnership with Alpine Canada, focused on the next generation of Canadian Ski Racing, will ensure that our country continues its place as a world-leading ski nation, for years to come,” said Mark Rubinstein, President and CEO of Alpine Canada. PCL's support will be instrumental in providing our talented Development Team athletes with world-class coaching, sport science and equipment, required to win on the world stage. We are very grateful to have a dedicated partner in PCL to support these critical high performance ski racing programs.”
PCL’s investment will directly support the Alpine Development Team, as well as rising Development Team star Jeffrey Read, who will bear the PCL brand on his helmets, toques and ball caps throughout the season. In the 2015-16 season, Read demonstrated his potential to be a World Cup podium contender in years to come, capturing multiple top fifteen finishes in NorAm Cup races last season and four FIS podium finishes. At the 2016 SportChek Canadian Championships, Read landed in the top ten in giant slalom, alpine combined and downhill events.
Jim Dougan, PCL Construction’s president, Central and Eastern Canada, said, "The drive that these athletes exhibit is both inspiring and amazing. Like PCL, these athletes are passionate about their craft, dedicated to overcoming challenges, and focused on delivering success. Supporting organizations where we work and live is a staple of PCL's commitment to healthy communities, and we are proud to be a part of the Alpine Canada family.”
“Our team is extremely thankful for the support from PCL and excited to have them join our Olympic journey,” said Read. “Investment into our careers at this stage is crucial to developing our skills so that we can be competitive on the world stage in years to come.”
In addition to supporting Canada’s next generation of alpine racers, PCL has also signed on to be an official supporter of Alpine Canada’s National Ski Day event. This year marks the third anniversary of the event where Canadians coast-to-coast will come together on January 14th, 2017 to celebrate skiing in their own backyards, supported by reduced lift ticket pricing and onsite resort experiences.
