Grenier in Ninth Leads Three Canadian Women in Top 20

Calgary, AB. (January 3, 2026) —At today’s FIS Ski World Cup women’s giant slalom (GS) in Kranjska Gora (SLO), Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON), 10th after the first run, picked up a spot in the second run to finish ninth on the day for her fifth top 15 in six World Cup GS races this season.

Grenier, who has won twice in Kranjska Gora, back-to-back in 2023 and ’24, now sits in eighth place in the World Cup GS standings through six of ten GS races this season.

“After last week’s fourth place I was hoping for more today,” said Grenier. “The first run was a slower course with lots of turns and I just couldn’t get into a flow. The second run was better but there was just too much time to make up.”

“I’m really happy for Cass and the rest of the girls We’re all having some good results and it’s exciting to see everyone skiing well.”

Britt Richardson (Canmore, AB), in her 35th career World Cup GS start, stood 11th after the first run and finished the day in 12th spot continuing her consistent results this season with her sixth top 20 finish in six World Cup races.

Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC), starting 45th, made the jump to 15th after the first run before finishing 16th for her first top 20 this season and the third top 20 of her World Cup career.

Justine Lamontagne (St-Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC), coming off her career best 26th place last week in Semmering (AUT), missed qualifying for the second run by less than .15 of a second.

“Today was a testament to how much I’ve grown since my first World Cup,” said a smiling Gray. “Kranjska is a special place for me. It’s where I had my first World Cup race and scored my first World Cup points. Felt like I was 19 again today and to stay in the fight in both runs today feels good and shows how I’ve grown as an athlete.”

“To have three of us in the top 20, and with Justine just missing out on the second run today, feels good. I’m really proud to be on a team with these girls. It’s really cool to see how far we’ve come together and it’s really special to be a part of.”

“And most importantly, our thoughts and hearts are with everyone impacted by the tragedy in Crans-Montana. We will be racing there later this season, and it hits close to home for all of us.”
