Jepsen and Oatway Top Podium / Alexander 7th in Wengen Downhill

Calgary, Alberta (January 17, 2026) —Canadian Para alpine ski racers wrapped up a strong week with two more wins today while Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) took 7th at the legendary Wengen downhill.

Mollie Jepsen (West Vancouver, BC) and Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB) topped the podium today at the FIS Para Alpine World Cup Super-G in Saalbach (AUT) giving Canada four wins in eight races, and a total of eight podiums this week in Saalbach.

Jepsen’s win, in women’s standing, is her first World Cup victory since December 2021 as she dealt with a series of injuries. Jepsen podiumed in all four races in Saalbach and has now stood on the podium in eight of her 11 World Cup races this season.

“I am super happy with today,” said a satisfied Jepsen. “I’ve been pretty frustrated with my skiing all week and knew I had more in the tank. I skied the way I know I can and have been in training and am really happy to end the Saalbach series with a win. It’s been a long time since I took the top spot in a World Cup. After all my injuries I wasn’t sure I would ever wear a leader bib again and I am stoked to walk away with it and even more confidence into the rest of the season.”

Today is Oatway’s 10th career World Cup win, his third in super-G, and, racing in men’s sitting, he’s now podiumed in both his races after missing the start of the World Cup season with injury.

“It was a tight race today, 1st to 5th was separated by just 0.59 seconds, and being the first sitter down I was sitting on edge for a while but managed to pull off a win today,” said Oatway. “The course set was very challenging, and I could have cleaned a few things up but results speak for themselves. It also feels good being on the top spot after dealing with injuries for about a year. These races are setting me up on a solid foundation moving into the rest of season.”

Alexis Guimond (Gatineau, QC), racing in men’s standing, wrapped up an impressive week with a third-place finish today to make it two victories and two third place finishes in four races in Saalbach.

“It was a good effort today,” said Guimond. “Had some really good skiing sprinkled in there, but made mistakes that cost me. Overall really happy with the way I skied, and the level I brought in this race series. Happy to close it out with a podium.”

Michaela Gosselin (Collingwood, ON) was a model of consistency this week in women’s standing, delivering four fifth place finishes giving her seven top fives in 12 World Cup starts this season. And Brian Rowland (Merrickville, ON), competing in men sitting, did not finish today’s race.

The start for today’s Lauberhorn downhill at the FIS Ski World Cup in Wengen (SUI) was lowered due to high winds making the +2 minute course about 30 seconds shorter. Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) adjusted to the changes and raced to seventh place today for his best result of the season and his third top 10 in his last four races in Wengen.

“Today is a good confidence boost and feeling good heading into the upcoming races, especially Kitzbühel next week,” said Alexander. “I tweaked my knee in Val Gardena and wasn’t feeling good enough race the downhills, and didn’t feel like myself there or in Livigno, so being able to really push today felt great.”

“When you come to Wengen you really want to start from the top. That’s what’s legendary about this course, the will it takes to ski fast from top to bottom. At the same time, when the course is shortened, it’s kind nice because you know you’ll have more left in the legs for the bottom of the course.”

James Crawford (Toronto, ON) was the other Canadian to score World Cup points today in 26th place while Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) was 44th and Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) was 46th.

In today’s women’s downhill at the FIS Ski World Cup in Tarvisio (ITA), Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON) led the Canadians finishing 39th followed by Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) in 47th place.
