About
Sierra Smith serves as the guide to Kalle Eriksson on the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team, and the two have quickly developed a partnership that ranks them among the world’s best in visually impaired ski racing.
Smith, 25, previously raced with the NextGen Canadian Alpine Ski Team and teamed up with Eriksson as a guide at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, guiding him to a gold medal in their partnership’s competitive debut in the giant slalom.
A native of Ottawa, Ont., Smith guided Eriksson to his first World Cup victory in a slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo, ITA, in January 2024, after securing his first World Cup podium finish weeks prior with a giant slalom third-place result in Veysonnaz, SUI.
The two then combined to secure a pair of silver medals at their debut World Championships in the slalom and giant slalom in Maribor, SLO, to cap off a breakout 2024-25 season.
Before taking on guiding and the Paralympic dream, Smith’s time in her own racing career ended in 2017, after she tore her ACL, MCL and meniscus in a horrific fall in Lake Louise, Alta, the first step that led her to guiding.
